HIGHER EDUCATION PROJECTS - MTU
When not working on power tool brands occasionally I get the opportunity to work with Universities. The majority of the time that means functional informative pieces, but not always. Here are some of the more interesting projects I’ve had over the years.
CUSTOM POLY MAILING BAG ILLUSTRATION
This one was a lot of fun. Michigan Tech is located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. In an area that can receive over 300 inches of snow a year you need to turn what some would call a negative into a positive. This particular year along with their acceptance letter students received a MTU winter beanie packaged in this mailer adorned with a custom illustration highlighting area winter activities.
PORTAGE LAKE GOLF COURSE LOGO
A logo approved but never used is something that is hard to understand. Sadly funding was pulled before this one was ever implemented but I think it looks great… even if it only sees the light of day in a photoshop rendering. The runner up (on the mug) would have been a good choice as well.

Higher Education Projects - OSU
A fortunate contact in a co-working space lead to a 6 month stint where I provided my design services to Oregon State University. During that time I designed a little bit of everything; full page print ads, postcards, logos & badges, infographics, slide decks, banner ads, and social images. As with MTU these are some of my favorites.
FULL PAGE PRINT ADS
Given access to only a University brand guide and photo archive I jumped in on these with both feet. While I don’t necessarily like the term, I think these could be referred to as “on brand”. Please note cover artwork and page opposite of the ads are only included for context and were completed by employees of OSU/Oregon Stater Magazine.
BADGR BADGES
Used by the College of Business on more than 15 different online courses and certificates. These can be embedded into the user’s social feed and econtains data that verifies a learner's skills and achievements — and they are meant to be shared!
OSU MICRO SITE
One of my larger more involved projects with OSU was this 4 page micro site. Initially designed in photoshop, with assets exported and then into sketch for the developer and collaboration with all parties involved.
OSU BANNER ADS
Banner/web ads do tend to lose a little context when out of their intended placement, but we all are familiar with creating one ad then reformatting it to fit in (usually too small) formats depending on the platform where it will be displayed. I would create a new set each month, usually with 2 sets of messaging for A/B testing.
MAILCHIMP EMAIL ELEMENTS
I often acted in a support role to those who were in-house. This is just one example of a class of graphics that I would design for others to compile in-house to achieve the department’s marketing efforts.
FLYERS
My focus while working with OSU was in the College of Business and more specifically with their online courses and certificates. Here are just a few of the many flyers I produced for those programs.
POSTCARDS
During my time designing for OSU we created several postcards. Some were distributed via snail mail and some (like this one) were distributed at events/gatherings.
