LOCAL WORK
I’m currently looking to expand my involvement with smaller independent businesses and organizations. So wherever “local” is to you know that I would like to help you and your small business design needs. Get in touch, and let’s discuss your next project.
LOGO DESIGN
Here are a few samples of logos designed for local small businesses and organizations. Whether designing for my corporate clients or the business down the street all projects are big projects, and all projects get the same attention to detail.
KEWEENAW EXPLORER CARDS
I designed the packaging, card backs, jokers, and point of sale pieces. Local artist and friend Chris Schmidt designed all the card faces, depicting 52 unique things to do while in the UP (Upper Peninsula) of Michigan.
This one is definitely one of my favorites. For those who don’t know, the Keweenaw Peninsula is in the northern most part of Upper Michigan and is surrounded by beautiful Lake Superior. This deck of playing cards celebrates the outdoors and everything this area has to offer. We can get over 300" in. of snow each season and have some of the best skiing/snowboarding east of the Rockies. When it warms up (and it does take a while) we have world class mountain biking, hiking, camping, paddle boarding, kayaking and miles of white sandy beaches. And yes people do surf Lake Superior, the most die hard do it year round… the Ice Beard Surfers.
KEWEENAW EXPLORER CARD DISPLAY CASE
Once the cards and packaging were off to Bicycle for printing I started on this point of sale piece. Designed to be placed near the register and to show off the incredible artwork of Chris Schmidt they still can be found at local shops and gift shops.
EVERBLADES HEATED WIPER BLADES
This one was again helping a friend out, but even without that it would have been hard to pass up. Just such a unique product. While your average driver might not need these (although there are times I wish I had them) they are meant for industry, truckers and snow plow drivers. I did save them some money by producing the entire package in 2 color… this is also an example of designing for the customer, not my personal style but after a little market research these not only fit in, they stand out.
EXPERIENCE THE KEWEENAW POSTER AND BROCHURE
Experience the Keweenaw is an event put on by Portage Health Foundation which is a community based non-profit that positively influences a healthier community through enhanced philanthropy and collaboration. I was happy to be a part of an event that includes so many activities I enjoy.
KORC LOGO TEE
This one was just a first pass, it never got picked up but it was a good exercise and I had fun putting it together.
GIVING TUESDAY - PORTAGE HEALTH FOUNDATION
After helping out the PHF on the Experience the Keweenaw project they asked me to take on the Giving Tuesday campaign. For the campaign I designed a Facebook cover image (below), video intro, newspaper ads, and various other social media graphics. A great cause that raised nearly $400,000 that was distributed it to 15 local non-profits.
VIDEO INTRO
I keep saying I’m not a video editor, and I’m not really. I do play around with motion graphics though. In this case it was just what was needed, so I do what I have too and figure it out. Generally if it is an Adobe product I can work my way through it. This was used as a lead-in to interviews of the non-profit recipients.
PRINT ADS
We placed ads in several regional newspapers, the sizes differed but all had the same content (which is a little more than what is in the 2 samples above). I won’t bore you with all of them (it’s a lot of Yooper Plaid) but they were all an iteration of what’s below.
